Myofascial Release

The goal of Myofascial Release (MFR) is to eliminate pain, trauma, and restricted motion and restore function and well-being. This therapy is for you if you are dedicated to your health and are are ready to release fascial restrictions that are the underlying cause of your symptoms.

The John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach is a safe and very effective hands-on technique done without oil or lotion that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. It may also include a gentle pulling on the body with the goal of inviting the fascial system to soften and lengthen. The method is performed on the parts of your body that are the most restricted to achieve a whole body structural release and realigning. You may notice sensations in other parts of your body which indicates other restrictions that need to be released. By addressing restrictions in the whole body, permanent structural change is achieved, preventing further problems in the future.

The fascia is a web of connective tissue that surrounds and supports our bodies. Its health and flexibility is key to our well-being and our ability to perform our daily activities. When it becomes injured through trauma, whether physical or emotional, it tightens down in response. Over time, the many tight areas pull on the rest of the interconnected fabric much like when you pull a thread on a sweater you will see the effect in other parts of the sweater. This restricted pattern causes our bodies to move in misalignment.

Over time, restricted fascia can create pain and may cause an inability to do things that we used to do. The fascia requires a different kind of analysis and treatment than muscle or bone. Memories, emotions and toxins may get locked into restricted places. When they are released, we have an opportunity to let go of all of those things we’ve been holding onto that are related to the injury or trauma, creating a very holistic and profound experience of healing.

Fascial restrictions can create bizarre symptoms such as pain, tingling, or burning some distance from the originally affected area as the strong fascia binds down on pain sensitive structures like nerves and blood vessels. The body loses its flexibility and orientation in space and becomes compromised so it needs more energy just to stay upright and function. As this process continues the immune system may become compromised, stress may not be as easily managed, and chronic pain and disease processes can set in.

For these sessions please bring a swim suit, swim trunks, or shorts and for women a sports bra or other suitable top.
